Six offers have been submitted by contractors for the building of the proposed tunnels under Sta Lucija roundabout.

Transport Minister Ian Borg said the offers had been submitted by local and international consortia.

The bids range from €13.5 million to €34.8 million.

The selection process is underway with the project works due to start by the end of the year.

Dr Borg had announced plans to build tunnels beneath the roundabout in April. At the time, he had put an estimated €20 million price tag on the project.

The work will be held in parallel with the works underway at the Addolorata Cemetery Junction.
