Alfred Sant deserved to lose this election. Many of his proposals were bizarre to say the least: The infamous "preparation" year; cutting the surcharge by 50 per cent; giving money to first-time home buyers; sitting on the fence on the spring hunting issue... and the list goes on. Where was Dr Sant going to get all the money from that he was promising to everyone except by raising taxes to bursting point, creating a huge deficit, or both?

The MLP needs a more decisive and charismatic leader.
