With all due respect; Frank Salt’s Talking Point ‘Friendly Maltese’ (December 21) brought to mind Harriet Beecher Stowe’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin (1852).

“The Maltese people have always been friendly, especially

to strangers.”

“We loved the British and the British loved us. It was a match made in heaven.”

“…It pays us Maltese to be friendly, especially to those who would want to do us harm.”

And so on.

What a simplistic, uncritical and ahistorical whitewash.
