PN deputy leader Simon Busuttil this morning promised his unconditional loyalty and support to the new PN leader, to be elected on Saturday.

Dr Busuttil, who is himself contesting the election, said that, if elected, he would set up five commissions, two of them permanent.

One commission would study the party’s commercial and financial situation, including that of its media arm, and come up with recommendations on how to address the issue. Dr Busuttil said his meetings with councillors showed that the party’s financial situation was the item of utmost concern for councillors.

The second commission would have revise the party’s statue following an outreach with members at club and district level.

The third commission, which would be a permanent one, would chose election candidates and look into the political behaviour of anyone representing the party. Also permanent would be a college of former MPs and candidates.

The fifth commission would be made of experts to give the party a sociological picture of the country on which it would then base its policies.

Dr Busuttil said that during the campaign, he had heard from councillors what they wanted from the party.

Councillors wanted a party with an open door policy, where one would feel welcome, with a headquarters that was not a house but a home and where grassroots were involved more than ever in the creation of policies.

They also wanted the party to solve its financial problems.

Dr Busuttil said that, on a political level, all four candidates wanted more or less the same thing for the party so councillors had to go one step further and look into the candidates’ personal qualities - the way they communicated and their track records and see who they would rather trust with the party and its history.
