While enthusiastically welcoming Minister Josè Herrera’s battle against the excess of noise that bedevils our islands (June 1), in my opinion what we need more than new laws is the vigorous impartial enforcement of existing legislation.

There is little point passing new draconian laws unless the authorities concerned are willing to enforce them. The track record of the powers-that-be on noise pollution over the years is hardly encouraging.
