Alternattiva Demokratika is claiming that the proposed offshore wind farm at is-Sikka l-Bajda is not viable.

Chairman Arnold Cassola this morning insisted the government should publish the experts’ conclusions on the farm’s viability claiming experts concluded it was not.

Addressing a news conference, he said that with AD’s other MEP candidate Yvonne Ebejer Arqueros, he would work to speed up the rate with which Malta was tapping into alternative energy resources.

Although the government’s schemes for the purchasing of solar water heaters and photovoltaic panels were good, only about 4,600 families benefited from them.

Ms Ebejer Arqueros said she would support the adoption of the European Commission’s proposal to increase maternity leave from 14 to 18 weeks, a move that had been opposed by the government and trade unions because of the current economic situation.

Prof. Cassola said that Maltese law discriminated against fathers pointing out that the unmarried fathers of children born from non-EU resident mothers had to pay about €3,000 for their baby’s delivery at the state hospital. AD, he promised, would work towards the elimination of such discrimination.
