Tube travellers have endured badly disrupted journeys after signal failures affected four London Underground lines in the heart of the morning rush hour.

A failed signal at Edgware Road in west London led to severe delays on the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines as well as severe delays between High Street Kensington and Edgware Road stations on the District line.

Another signal failure led to hold-ups between Harrow-on-the-Hill and Uxbridge on the Metropolitan line.

The problems follow difficulties yesterday when there were hold-ups between Harrow & Wealdstone and Queen’s Park on the Bakerloo line due to a track fault, as well as delays on the District line between Richmond and Turnham Green following a signal failure.

London Overground services were also affected yesterday after a tree came down on the line at Forest Hill in south-east London.

London Underground operations director Steve White said: “I apologise for the disruption to Tube customers using the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines this morning.

“This was caused by a signal failure at Edgware Road which our engineers have resolved and services have now resumed.”
