The shooting in a farm at tal-Fawwara on Monday followed an argument in which the accused told victim Nicholas Catania of Siggiewi that he did not want him trapping on his farm anymore, the Magistrates’ Court heard this morning.

Horace Fenech, 32, of Siggiewi is pleading not guilty to the attempted murder of and seriously injuring Mr Catania, and to using a firearm, shotgun and a sharp and pointed instrument.

The court heard that before the incident Mr Fenech and Mr Catania were best friends.

But an argument during which Mr Fenech asked Mr Catania not to trap on his farm anymore led to Mr Catania alleging that Mr Fenech had stolen some of his birds and the shooting.

After considering the seriousness of the case, Magistrate Antonio Mizzi remanded Mr Fenech in custody.
