The court this morning upheld a request for a prohibitory injunction by the Siggiewi council against the planning authority to keep it from deciding about an application for the building of a large chicken farm and other facilities in the area known as tad-Dikkiena.

The council said in a statement this morning it had to issue its request after the case officer on Friday changed his recommendation from one against the development to one in favour.

This was done behind the council’s back even though as an interested third party which had registered an interest in the development it had a right to be informed.

The council said it noticed the change coincidentally yesterday afternoon as the application was on the agenda of one of the authority’s commissions.

It said it objected to the development in September because of the odour it would produce, the negative visual impact, the negative impact on the Dar tal-Providenza, its residents and its workers, the risk of water contamination and the negative impact on an old rural building close by.

The request was signed by Richard Sladden and Luisa Tufigno on behalf of mayor Karol Aquilina and executive secretary Nicholas Baldacchino.
