The two Sicilian fishermen who had to spend the weekend in Malta after they were fined by the courts on Friday because the registry closed minutes before they could settle their fine, paid their fine today - eight minutes before closing time.

The two fishermen, Salvatore Saporito, 29, captain of La Principessa Prima, and Salvatore Penna, 52, captain of La Madonnina, were fined €20,000 each after they admitted to fishing in Maltese waters without the necessary permits yesterday.

One paid by bank transfer, the other by cheque.
