Two men were accused in court this morning of having apprehended and assaulted another man, seriously injuring him. The case allegedly happened yesterday.

Siblings Clayton Azzopardi, 27 of St Paul's Bay and Dylan Azzopardi, 22 of Marsascala were accused of unlawfully apprehending Luke Vella and assaulting him, causing grievous injuries.

Clayton Azzopardi was also accused of breaking the conditions of a previous sentence.

According to informed sources, the two allegedly pulled Mr Vella out of his car in Zabbar, bound him, beat him up and bundled him into their car.

They drove for a short distance, beat him up again and threw him out. Mr Vella suffered severe injuries to his head and parts of his body.

The two are denying the charges, claiming it was Mr Vella who started the argument.

The argument was allegedly over money owed to them by a member of Mr Vella's family.

Both men pleaded not guilty. Bail was denied.
