A 480-kilogramme shrimp consignment has been withheld by the Port Authorities pending further investigations.

The Port Health Inspectorate Services within the Environmental Health Directorate intercepted the consignment on Monday.

The shrimps, of Vietnamese origin, were traded through Italy and had a lapsed durability date of November, 2010.

This investigation is a result of joint inspections coordinated by the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority with the participation of the Health Inspectorate, Customs, and the Veterinary Services.

The authorities warned traders that action would be taken against any trader whose consignments were non-compliant, irrespective of the place of dispatch, be it within or outside the EU.
