The recently set up Pegasus Riding Club (pegasusridingclub@gmail.com) has just held its first show-jumping championship event for the season at the Tal-Magħtab Equestrian Centre.

Four other similar events are scheduled for the year during which riders will be vying for championship points.

Over 40 riders, hailing from different clubs, took part, jumping in eight different classes, starting from 50cm and going up to 120cm.

Most of the classes were closely-contested with quite a few jump-offs being required to determine winners. A jump-off is necessary when riders finish equal on points.

“The first local championship of the season was a great success. Apart from the enthusiasm shown, the calibre of the riders has increased from the past season,” David Restall, president of the Pegasus Riding Club, said.

“We, as a committee, are very much looking forward to the continuation of the season’s local show jumping championships.”
