An Italian man was yesterday sentenced to 25 months in prison after confessing to stealing €4,000 from Country Style, in Birżebbuġa, where he works.
The court heard that he left the windows of the premises open before clocking out.
At 3.30am, on August 3, when everyone had left the shop, he went in through a window and took all the cash he could get his hands on. Gian Nicola Cursoli, 42, who appeared before Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera, apologised for what he had done. The court heard he had used the money to pay rent for his Birżebbuġa apartment.
Police Inspector Kurt Zahra prosecuted.
Lawyer Mark Busuttil was defence counsel.
