The Government is to publish a White Paper on a revision of shop opening hours, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna said.

He said the opening hours for the different sectors were confusing and needed to be reviewed in view of changes in people’s lifestyles.

One had to consider, he said, whether shops be able to chose which days they opted to stay closed and whether there were grounds for extended opening hours. One could also consider having night shops.

Workers’ rights had to be kept in consideration throughout.
