A shop owner was slightly injured this evening when shots were fired during a hold-up at a mobile phones outlet in Psaila Street, Birkirkara.

The police said the incident took place at about 6.30 p.m. when a hooded and armed man entered the shop while another waited outside in a green Hyundai car.

People on the scene said the shots were fired when the shop owner, a 27-year-old man from Birkirkara, followed one of the men as he fled the shop, taking some electronic equipment with him.

The shop owner, who was injured in his left hand, was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

Informed sources said at least one man was arrested in connection with the case and the car thought to have been used for the getaway was impounded in Msida.
