An Italian Military Mission helicopter this morning evacuated a tanker captain who fell ill on his ship as it lay at anchor on Hurd's Bank, off Malta.

The helicopter had a joint Italian-Maltese crew.

The Norwegian captain of the Tanaro apparently suffered a mild stroke.

He was winched onto the AB212 helicopter and flown to Mater Dei Hospital for treatment.
