The captain of an Italian merchant vessel was evacuated to Mater Dei Hospital yesterday afternoon after suffering from a suspected heart attack.

A shipping agent informed the army that the captain of its Italian-registered merchant vessel had suffered a heart attack.

Gioacchino Tangari, 48, was airlifted by an army helicopter at about 4 p.m. from the ship about 12 nautical miles off Żonqor Point on the Hurd bank.
