The number of people arraigned last year for alleged child sex abuse jumped to 60 from 42 in the previous year and just 38 in 2006, figures given in parliament show.

The courts last year decided 20 such cases, compared to 16 in 2008 and 20 in 2006.

The information was given by Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici.
