Nigerian footballer Akande Williams, 23, was today granted bail after having been charged earlier this month with  trying to kill baby Maleek Olowoshile by violently shaking him.

The incident happened on April 15 at the Mellieħa apartment the accused shares with the child’s pregnant mother.

Bail was granted against a deposit of €5,000 and personal guarantee  of €15,000 after the court heard that the prosecution was not objecting to bail as long as there were sufficient safeguards.

The defence had initially objected to the €5,000 deposit, with the accused saying such an amount was beyond his reach.
