I refer to the letter Cesspool At Cospicua/Vittoriosa Marina (August 17).

The situation is unacceptable and has been for a number of years. It is an issue that Grand Harbour Marina has been working hard to resolve.

We have been working closely with the Water Services Corporation for the past year and a half. During this time, we also commissioned a report on the sewage in the area which we presented to the WSC in November of 2008.

It is unfortunate that we are still faced with such a situation. In the past 12 months the WSC have replaced all the pipe work in St Lawrence Street, Vittoriosa as well as automating the monitoring of the sump pit on Xatt ir- Risq. They are currently addressing two further issues that have come to light as a result of these works, one of which involves finding the leak that exists further up near the square in Vittoriosa.

The issue highlighted in the aforementioned letter, although unfortunate, was unrelated; as it is the result of a blocked sewer in the square at the Cospicua entrance to Dock 1. Happily, this was addressed and resolved by the WSC at the first opportunity.

I can confirm that the WSC are taking the matter seriously in that they are addressing everything within the creek with utmost priority. I have been impressed by their responsiveness in tackling the numerous problems they have encountered.

We, as everyone else, very much look forward to it being fully resolved in the earliest possible time.
