Sevilla are confident they can continue to ruffle the feathers of Europe's biggest clubs after qualifying top of Group H in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Second-half goals from Mali striker Frederic Kanoute and Brazilians Luis Fabiano and Daniel Alves clinched a 3-0 win at Slavia Prague to give them 15 points, two ahead of second-placed Arsenal.

Sevilla's five wins and one defeat made it the best performance by a debutant in the group format of Europe's elite competition after their step up from winning the UEFA Cup for the last two seasons.

Only Manchester United amassed more points, with 16 in Group F, while Inter topped Group G also with 15.

"The Champions League is a difficult competition but we have the quality to go far," said Fabiano.

"To finish top of the group was very important for us and we'll try to continue in the same way."

Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido added: "To progress in this manner was what we only dreamed about. The team have been impressive.

"Little by little they are getting back to form, taking on Manolo Jimenez's concepts, and we have to be satisfied with this."

However, the team's European adventure has taken its toll on their domestic campaign and coach Jimenez, who replaced Juande Ramos in October after he left to join Tottenham Hotspur, was keen to draw a line under their achievements for now.

"We achieved a brilliant victory tonight and now we can put the Champions League to one side until February, so we can focus on the league and the cup," said Jimenez.

Sevilla are ninth in the Primera Liga and visit promoted Valladolid on Sunday with three defeats and one win from their last four league outings.
