Police in Sweden made several arrests today over a suspected bomb plot in Gothenburg, the country's second largest city.

Officers declined to confirm the number of arrests made, but said those arrested are suspected of preparing a terror crime.

Police spokesman Bjor Blixter said the arrests were made at several addresses in the Gothenburg area, but that the motive for the plot was not yet clear.

Blixter said police "can't rule out" more arrests linked to the case. He would not say whether it was related to criminal groups or international terrorists.

Swedish intelligence agency SAPO said the country's terror threat level would not be raised because of the arrests.
