The Sette Giugno monument temporarily situated in Valletta's Hastings garden should be placed close to parliament, the Nationalist Party has said.

It suggested placing the monument close to the country's highest institution out of respect for the monument's symbolism and history.

The relocation should ensure Valletta's City Gate entrance, Centre for Creativity and Pjazza Teatru Rjal remained unspoiled, the PN said.

A public consultation period seeking suggestions as to where to permanently place the monument is currently underway. Anyone keen to share their suggestions with the GHRC should email ghrc@gov.mt or send a letter to Monument Sette Giugno, GHRC, Triq Antonio Maurizio Valperga, Floriana.

The statue was moved into storage from its original location at St George's square before it found a home, albeit a temporary one, at Hastings Garden in 2010.
