A serious and critical blood shortage of 'O' type blood, both positive and negative, has been reported by the Blood Bank.

In an appeal, the Blood Bank urged people, especially relatives of those who have scheduled operations, to donate as soon as possible.

The bank said that only 59 bags of O positive and 16 of O negative blood remained.

Blood is donated at the Blood Bank next to St Luke's Hospital in Guardamangia between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. Mondays to Sundays or at the Gozo General Hospital between 8.30 and 11.30 a.m. Mondays to Saturdays.

Donors have to be in possession of their identity card.
