One of the men charged in connection with the failed heist on the HSBC headquarters last June was yesterday jailed for six months for breaching bail conditions when allegedly participating in another failed crime.

Darren Debono, also known as It-Topo, 34, from Żonqor, Marsascala, was found guilty by Magistrate Antonio Mizzi of breaching the conditions on December 3 at about 8.15 p.m.

When Mr Debono was first arraigned, Police Inspector Anthony Portelli told the court that following his release on bail in connection with the failed HSBC heist, he was found at the site of a failed hold-up on jeweller Michael Mizzi and his son Silvio in Attard.

The bail conditions had specifically laid down that he should remain in his residence between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. but he was found in Attard at 8.15 p.m., the officer said.

In January, Mr Debono was jailed for two years and nine months for possessing 83 grammes of cocaine in February 2003.

Lawyer Joseph Giglio appeared for Mr Debono.
