AC Milan, knocked out of the UEFA Cup in midweek, were rocked again ontoday as a 2-1 defeat at Sampdoria in Serie A left coach Carlo Ancelotti's position looking precarious.

Antonio Cassano headed the hosts in front in the 33rd minute and his strike partner Giampaolo Pazzini stretched the lead six minutes into the second half with his fifth goal in as many games. Brazilian Alexandre Pato pulled one back for Milan 10 minutes from time to set up an exciting finale.

Third-placed Milan remain 11 points behind leaders Inter, who meet AS Roma at the San Siro later, and are just two ahead of fourth-placed Fiorentina, held 1-1 at bottom club Reggina.

Second-placed Juventus cut Inter's advantage to six points yesterday by beating Napoli 1-0 at home.
