A serial fraudster who tricked 15 people into renting apartments and villas that did not belong to her was this afternoon sentenced to a year in jail.

Annabelle Camilleri Monreal, 31, from Xemxija, whose name is synonymous with fraud, has a long list of convictions, including over the scam involving Gozo farmhouses.

Ms Camilleri Monreal admitted before Magistrate Audrey Demicoli that she accepted money for rentals of properties that were not hers.

She was sentenced to a year behind bars.

During her arraignment over this case last December, Police Inspector Gowdin Scerri told the court that there were long queues outside the Qawra police station, waiting to file criminal complaints against Ms Camilleri Monreal.

Last November, Ms Camilleri Monreal had been sentenced to seven months in jail after admitting to defrauding an Englishman of €1,000. He had paid her to rent an apartment in St Paul’s Bay that did not belong to her.

She has a number of pending fraud cases, including one in which she is accused of defrauding her former employer, Zahra Trading and Properties.
