Two men were given a one-year jail term suspended for a year for using forged passport stamps to stay in Malta.

Serbian Ivan Senci, 29, and Macedonian Igor Stojchevski, 23, both of St Julian’s, admitted to using the stamps on and before May 4. Inspector Mario Haber told Magistrate Carol Peralta this was one of a series of cases of Eastern Europeans caught with forged stamps during routine inspections.

Lawyers Shaheryar Ghaznavi and Robert Galea said their client had married a Bulgarian woman in Malta and was obtaining documents as the spouse of an EU citizen. The court warned the suspended term still tainted the men’s records. Noel Bartolo represented Mr Stojchevski.
