The annual Seniors Open at the Eden SuperBowl got underway yesterday morning when a record entry of 260 over-50 bowlers, hailing from 17 different countries, were engaged in the first round of play after the official opening ceremony, presided by Minister of Tourism Francis Zammit Dimech.

In his address, Dr Zammit Dimech highlighted the success of events such as the Seniors Open which help to build on our growing reputation as a sport tourism destination.

The minister went on to praise efforts made by entities in the private sector, such as the Eden Leisure Group, and the considerable investment involved in sustaining a venue of such high calibre as the SuperBowl.

Then, Dr Zammit Dimech officially opened the championships by rolling a single frame, as is the tradition ahead of international events at the SuperBowl.

The first round of the tournament began immediately after the opening ceremony. Competition will continue daily until the final stages on Sunday.
