The Jesuit Centre for Ignatian Spirituality is organising a weekend seminar led by Fr Joseph Buhagiar Bianco on ‘The Life of Moses’, at Mount St Joseph retreat house, Mosta, from Friday at 6 p.m. to Sunday at 2.30 p.m.

Fr Buhagiar Bianco has taught Patristics and Monasticism at the Jesuit University in Beirut, Lebanon.

Prior to attending the weekend, participants are required to obtain a copy of The Life of Moses by Gregory of Nyssa (Classics of Western Spirituality), translated by Abraham Malherbe and Everett Ferguson, with introduction by John Meyendorff, available from www.amazon.com.

The book was written by Gregory, Bishop of Nyssa, in his old age, around the year 392. It is divided into two parts. The first part is the story of the life of Moses or a literal exegesis of the book of Exodus.

The second part is the theory of perfection. It is the theory of the spiritual journey of Moses, a journey which takes him up to the summit of perfection: he becomes the one who follows in God’s footsteps.

Participants will be studying this second part, entitled ‘A contemplation on the life of Moses’.
