A seminar on the strong cultural aspect of the local feast is being held on March 31.

The seminar, entitled ‘Il-festi: kultura u identita’ is being organised by the Centenary Commission as part of the activities the Mqabba Our Lady of Lilies Musical Society is organising throughout the year.

The aim is to convey the message that the Maltese traditional feast contains a strong element of culture and identity related to the Maltese lifestyle, which each one of us is obliged to safeguard.

The seminar aims to bring together academic speakers who have previously worked on the subject of Maltese feasts.

Speakers include: Mark Anthony Falzon, director of the Department of Sociology at the University of Malta; Christine Cassar, anthropology student at Cambridge University; Maltese ambassador to Tunisia and theatre studies expert Vicki Ann Cremona; and Jeremy Boissevain, professor emeritus in social anthropology at the University of Amsterdam.

History graduate and national archivist Charles Farrugia, will chair the discussion.

Pre-booking for this seminar is recommended. Call 2164 0041 or 7985 3044. More information on www.talgilju.com.

The seminar will be held at the MonteKristo Estates in Ħal Farruġ. Registration opens at 8.30 a.m. and talks start at 9 a.m.
