Hong Kong Trade Development Council regional director Western Europe Lawrence Yipp is to address a seminar on Tuesday from 9-11.30 a.m. at the premises of Malta Enterprise in San Gwann.

Mr Yipp will speak on what Hong Kong has to offer in view of alternative sources of raw materials or semi-finished products from Hong Kong for further processing in Malta; exporting opportunities of manufactured components for further production; export possibilities in Hong Kong; and ways of developing joint ventures with a partner based in Hong Kong.

In his presentation, Mr Yipp will also explain what assistance is available to Malta-based operators from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Mr Yipp was appointed last August. He oversees the HKTDC's promotional activities in the UK, Ireland, Italy, France, Spain, Cyprus, Greece, Malta, the Nordics, Benelux, Russia and South Africa. Based in London, he directs the work of eight offices and consultants in the region.

Mr Yipp joined the HKTDC in 1998 to oversee the council's business matching services, which help companies around the world partner with businesses from Hong Kong. The services range from fully automated self-matching over the Internet at www.tdctrade.com to customised meetings arranged between potential business partners. The services are supported by a databank of 600,000 global business contacts, which is continuously updated and expanded.

Before joining TDC, Mr Yipp had over 20 years' experience in manufacturing industry, as well as in trade, technology and investment promotion bodies including the Hong Kong Productivity Council and the Department of State and Regional Development of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia. Mr Yipp has a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Hong Kong.

Other speakers at the seminar are Carrie Lam, director general of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London; Ray Muscat, chief officer Enterprise Support of Malta Enterprise; Anton Borg, president of the Malta Federation of Industry; and Joe Esposito, head of the BoV Trade Finance Centre.
