An ecumenical prayer service at the Church of Jesus of Nazareth in Sliema was held yesterday for those in need of protection in Europe as well as people who perished trying to reach the EU.

Yesterday's event, organised by the Dominican Community and Jesuit Refugee Service, was held as part of a week of activities leading up to World Refugee Day next Sunday.

The events continue on Tuesday with the film Come un uomo sulla terra (Like a Man on Earth) at St James Cavalier, Valletta, at 7.30 p.m., followed by discussion. Entrance is free.

The football ground near Ħal Far open centre will host a series of matches on Friday at 5 p.m. and a World Refugee Day Concert will be held at Marsa Open Centre next Sunday from 4 p.m. onwards.
