For the first time digital photos can be viewed on CD or DVD as they were meant to look on your high definition TV (HDTV) thanks to Sony's new DVPNS78H DVD player. This model supports HD photo slideshow output, so users can view their images at five times the resolution previously available - quality that makes the most of an HDTV set.

This slim model has an HDMI output with 1080P upsampling. Provided users have a suitable TV, upsampling existing DVDs gives the opportunity to view them in near-HD quality. Although primarily a DVD player with HDMI, the DVPNS78 offers the further choice of component or RGB SCART.

Either way, the latest DVD software ensures a picture that is full of detail and has excellent depth and realism, the company said.

DVD is also versatile. In addition to being able to play DivX, SVCD, DVD+R DL and pretty much any other blank disc format, the multi region Sony DVD will also play the latest HD JPEG format, and with four pre-recorded sound tracks to boot!

The DVPNS78 is smartly presented and slick in operation, with just five buttons on the front panel and comprehensive menus on the screen.
