The Justice Reform Commission has finalised its second document on the reform of the justice sector and issued it for public consultation.
The document includes 293 proposals and proposed changes with the aim of reforming the justice sector.
The changes included proposals to radically change the legal aid system, a charter of rights for users, the setting up of an administrative civil court and proposals on changes to mediation and arbitration.
The commission also studied the parole system, the Gozo court and the family court.
Giovanni Bonello, who is heading the commission, said the first report was very well received and the feedback was positive in the sense that very good ideas had been presented.
The second document will be open to public consultation until the end of October when the commission will present its third and final report which would incorporate the feedback received.
Receiving the document, Justice Parliamentary Secretary Owen Bonnici hoped the document would achieve what the government aimed for, namely - democratic access to justice in reasonable time, a reduction in backlog and making the law courts more accessible to people.
