A key suspect in the deadly Bangkok bombing has been transferred to police custody after a week of military interrogation, and was asked to acknowledge the charge against him before police and the media.

Police introduced an unusual twist by asking him whether or not he was guilty of the charge of co-possession of illegal explosives, as stated in his arrest warrant.

The suspect, identified as Yusufu Mierili, responded through a translator: "Guilty."
Mierili has not yet been formally charged. It was not clear whether the apparent confession would carry legal weight in a court.

Police say they found his fingerprints on a container of gunpowder at an apartment on Bangkok's outskirts.

The August 17 blast at a popular shrine left 20 people dead.
