British singer-songwriter and Grammy award winner Jess Glynne is the second act to take the stage at this year’s Isle of MTV.

Marking its ninth consecutive year, the free live music event will return to the Granaries in Floriana on July 7.

Jess Glynne shot to international stardom in the past 18 months following a series of number one singles including recent UK number one ‘Hold My Hand’, a dance anthem collaboration with electro-classical group Clean Bandit on ‘Rather Be’ (winner of ‘Best Dance’ at the 2015 Grammy Awards) and a soulful-house feature on Route 94’s ‘My Love’.

Earlier this morning, the tourism authority’s chairman would not commit to a date when the Isle of MTV line-up will be released, saying only that it will be released “eventually” and “very soon”.

In Parliament on February, tourism minister Edward Zammit Lewis had said that the MTA had insisted with Be Viacom, brand engagement division for MTV, that the concert’s line-up should be announced as early as possible to enable specific marketing campaigns.

He also said that this year’s concert has been moved from its usual late June date to July 7 to better cater for late bookings for tourists.

Last year, the full line-up was revealed 10 days before the concert was due to take place, sparking criticism that it was announced too late for tourists to book their flights and accommodation.

Prior to today's announcement of Jess Glynne, only DJ Martin Garrix had been announced.

“Eventually, you will hear about the line-up,” Gavin Gulia told Times of Malta.

“We have an events director who is taking care of affairs. We’ve always had a high quality product. Eventually, very soon, you will hear about the line-up.”

Asked to clarify, Mr Gulia refused to commit to a particular date. The MTA’s aim, he said, was to strengthen the product and make it better than that of previous years.

Asked whether he believed that the concert’s marketing will be affected, he insisted that it had never been affected negatively.

“We’ve always had a great response from abroad and I trust that we’ll have an even bigger response this year.”
