The police this morning carried out an intensive search of the garage and residence of Pietru Cassar, who was shot dead in Zejtun on Wednesday.

Officers, including forensics experts, carried many household items out into the narrow street.

People on the scene said firearms and material which could be used for bomb-making were removed.

The search follows another search made yesterday in Marsascala in a garage that belonged to relatives of Mr Cassar, known as Pietru l-Haqqa.

In October, the police arraigned Mr Cassar after finding bomb-making equipment in his garage.
