SDM, a political student organisation founded in the 1970s, enjoyed a landslide victory in yesterday’s University Student Council elections.

The KSU election uses the first past the post system and this year SDM increased its total amount of block votes to 68.3 per cent, a 1,046 vote lead over Pulse, the competing organisation, it said.

SDM's 11 candidates included six who were part of the previous KSU executive board and five who formed part of other organisations at university.

Becky Micallef, who was elected president, formed part of last year's KSU team as commissioner for social policy. The other KSU members are Andrew Borg Wirth, vice president; Andrew Muscat, general secretary; Philip Mizzi, treasurer; Daniel Vella, public relations officer; Ryan Falzon, education officer; Emma Portelli Bonnici, social policy officer; Mark Trapani, international officer; Steph Dalli, culture and entertainment coordinator; Becky Dalli, international coordinator; and Gilli Amato Gauci, culture and entertainment officer.
