SDM have retained control of the KSU University Students' Council, winning 1,948 votes in the election held yesterday.

All 11 of the SDM candidates were elected.

The results were announced at 3am to celebrations by a small crowd of students. Pulse got 1603 votes. The remaining votes went to a number of other candidates or were invalid.

Turnout, at 33 per cent, was higher than recent elections, with 4,481 votes cast. That included the Junior College, students at Mater Dei, Bighi institute, the Valletta campus and Gozo Centre.

The electoral campaigns focused on a number of issues, including calls for quicker exam results and better parking facilities.

Thomas Bugeja will be the new KSU President having received 2,453 votes.
