Prime Minister Joseph Muscat yesterday said the Government had no plans to abandon the construction of new schools or the new Mcast campus.

But before the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools undertook new projects there had to be a new financing programme and another to pay for accumulated debts of more than €70 million.

Dr Muscat was intervening in Parliament to answer a supplementary question by Opposition Leader Lawrence Gonzi, who had sought confirmation that the Government had scrapped the new schools construction programme of the Foundation for Tomorrow’s Schools (FTS).

Dr Gonzi asked his question after Education Minister Evarist Bartolo had told Clyde Puli (PN) that the Nationalist government’s plan to construct a new school every year until 2020 was estimated to cost €60 million but was not covered by a financing plan.
