A judicial protest has been filed by Pace's Schoolwear Ltd against Public Broadcasting Services and editor Natalino Fenech claiming damages as a result of a news feature on school uniforms during the news bullettin on September 1.

The company said that the feature was filmed in front of its Valletta shop and comments by people could be heard in the background. There were also editorial comments giving the impression that a monopoly in the sale of school uniforms was badly affecting consumers and that the market should be liberalised.

The feature gave the impression that uniforms sold by Pace were very expensive because the company enjoyed a monoply. This was not the case and the company's prices were low when compared to those of other companies.

PBS's behaviour was illegal and abusive and in breach of the Press Act.

The company's reputation had been badly affected by the feature and it was holding the station responsible for damages.
