The Daniel Delicata Memorial Association has launched a scheme to recycle mobile phones to raise money for the Sick Children's Trust of the UK, a charity organisation that supports families with sick children.

Owners of mobile phones that are not being used are asked to give the set to the organisation and a mimimum of 50p from every mobile phone successfully recycled will be donated to the trust.

Maria Delicata of the Daniel Delicata Memorial Association said that although this Trust is based in the UK, many Maltese families make use of the houses that it funds.

Thanks to the accommodation offered by the Trust houses, a family can stay together without having to fork out hundreds of euros to pay for accommodation when accompanying sick children.

These apartments are kept in tip-top condition and offer a refuge at the end of an exhausting and stressful day of check-ups, tests and maybe some sad news, Ms Delicata said.

The Sick Children's Trust was founded in 1982 by two paediatric specialists, Jon Pritchard and James Malpas, who believed that having parents on hand during hospital treatment benefited a child's recovery.
