A 24-room doll's house that replicates the lavish interior of a celebrated country manor is expected to fetch up to £3,000 at auction.

The 1:12th scale model of Grade II Bourton House at Bourton-on-the-Hill, Gloucestershire, will be sold this month by auctioneers Chorley's.

The interior of the detailed model mirrors the inside of 18th century house, and includes its magnificent staircase, trompe l'oeil murals, elegant wood panelled rooms with fireplaces, flagged stone floors, bathrooms and even a fitted kitchen from the late 1980s.

The model, 117cm and 152cm wide, was created in the 1980s by Ellie Yannas after Richard Paice, then owner of the real thing, met her at the Chelsea Crafts Fair.

Mr Paice then challenged her to make a copy of the 24-room house as it was in 1985.

Ms Yannas took scaled measurements, went back to her studio in South London and made it in three sections according to the construction of the house.

The task took her almost seven years to complete.

The human-sized version of the doll's house, described as one of the finest in the county, was sold this year for an undisclosed sum.

Last year it was marketed at "offers over £4.5 million", Country Life reported.

The house was built on the foundations of a 16th century Tudor residence, reputedly by Alexander Popham, the grandson of Cromwellian general Sir Francis Popham.

Chorley's officialIona Sale said: "It is an opportunity to acquire a Cotswold manor house for a fraction of the price. It could appeal to doll's house lovers but we are talking about a big piece of furniture here.

"You need a big area to position it. It is just a wonderful, whimsical thing to have."

The piece is set to fetch between £2,000-3,000 when it is auctioned at Prinknash Abbey Park, Gloucestershire on Saturday April 24.
