Alternattiva Demokratika has called on the government to register its opposition to the controversial proposals on the cultivation of genetically modified organisms (GMO) presented by European Commissioner John Dalli.
In a statement, AD said the proposals would facilitate access of GMOs in the EU and Malta.
AD agriculture and animal welfare spokesman Simon Galea said: “AD strongly believes that GMO cultivation should be banned from the EU and Malta has a role to play in this regard.”
Malta is among a small group of member states which agreed to a European Commission proposal late last month to give individual countries the power to decide whether to cultivate GM crops on their territory.
