It seems that in lambasting the government over the fact that illegal immigrants coming from Libyan ports are not being given a quasi-VIP treatment by a small over-populated island, Amnesty International forgot to lambast Libya for allowing about 10,000 illegal immigrants get hold of boats and food to travel to Malta. Is it because they are afraid to tackle a big, rich country and so bully a tiny island, which is spending millions of euros to feed the migrants, house them and give them €140 monthly pocket money?

With regard to the fact that a woman allegedly gave birth in the open centre, AI should do well to stop the millions of babies being killed through abortion.

The time has come for both the government and the opposition to enact a law, similar to the one being piloted by Minister Roberto Maroni in Italy, making it a crime for immigrants to land in Italy.

The Maltese are fed up with empty promises of help, of patrols, money and burden sharing. Illegal migrants landing in Malta should be given the option to go back or else stay in detention centres. As most of them are Muslims and can have four wives, Malta will soon have a large population of Muslims and, according to the US State Department, Malta could become a centre for terrorist activity. I am astonished that local newspapers have given prime space to this unjustified report.

Moreover, the Jesuits' Refugee Committee and the Emigrants' Commission should stop helping these people to become permanent refugees here. Instead, they should help them to be repatriated to rich oil-producing Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Libya, which have ample space and money. Saving their lives from drowning is necessary but they should be sent back to their country.
