Well done to Lino Bugeja for the feature on Fort St Angelo (The Sunday Times, October18). It is good to see the plight of Fort St Angelo being given the importance it deserves. May more learned and influential people in Malta join in one voice to save this historic place.

This fort should be a priority on any restoration list the government has in mind. Immediate work should start on its greatly needed restoration to stop further deterioration, before both Maltese and tourists see St Angelo collapse into a huge pile of rubble from Upper Barrakka Gardens.

I would not like to be the tourist guide to have to explain embarrassingly that the fort collapsed due to politicians' neglect.

This will hopefully never happen. I am sure the fee paid to Renzo Piano for his plans would have given a much needed headstart to the restoration of the fort.
