The golf course at Marsa is looking perfect despite the recent turn of weather for the worse. This year the greens have been over-seeded having sought advice from Scotland's R & A.

The Bermuda Grass on the greens, which is ideal for our hot summers, goes dormant in the winter and with constant use the greens suffered quite badly last year. This time, the over-seeding has already taken effect and we envisage a vast improvement.

GO sponsored a three-day tournament for men and women which took the form of a Stableford competition.

The women's tournament was played on a glorious Thursday morning, a bit soggy underfoot but otherwise perfect.

The overall winner was Felicity Dix with a score of 31 points. There were also prizes for the winner of each category - Division 1: Manuella Roth (31), Division 2: Annette Sowden (29); Division 3: Claire Arrigo (31).

The men's tournament was played over two days.

For those playing on Friday it was blissful, the sun was shining, the ground was dry and the wind was calm. In contrast, those playing on Saturday had to contend with a howling gale.

Needless to say, the winner was a Friday player, Peter Satariano, with 40 Stableford points. Chris Bergedahl (Jnr) was second also with 40 points. The latter should be commended for his performance as he played in adverse conditions on the Saturday and only lost to Satariano on count-back. John Fletcher was third.

David Kay, the CEO of GO, took part in the competition. He presented the trophies and prizes.

In other competitions at Marsa, Paul Gray won the Horton Cup, followed by Lew Collins.

Bergedahl was top golfer in the Monthly Medal Division One ahead of Truman Addison. Doug Nelson won Division Two and Stephen Potts Division Three.
