Scandinavian airline SAS will be operating flights between Malta and Stockholm as from the end of March, the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, Mario de Marco announced today.
Speaking during a visit to the Hilton Hotel, which has been extended, Dr de Marco said that the government had also issued an international call for airlines to operate to another three destinations - Leeds Bradford, Newcastle and Bristol, all in the UK.
He said that by the end of this year, the stock of tourist beds would rise by 600 beds with another 600 planned for 2009.
The parliamentary secretary said that eight percent of the Maltese earned their living from tourism and tourist expenditure was estimated to be close to €855 million. This compared well with the record results of 2007.
